New Tea Ingredient: The Tulsi Herb

There's a new adventure to behold at all of your favorite Teavana locations. At our Gardens store we welcome these new teas to our oasis of good health.

Amongst the new flavors and excitement come new ingredients to the Teavana family. A new rooibos introduces us to a healing, Ayurvedic herb.

Tulsi Dosha Chai Rooibos.

Ocimum Sanctum, known as the tulsi herb, is a healing herb in Hindu tradition. It is believed to enhance immunity, metabolic functions, and help fight respiratory troubles like asthma. It is said to be antiviral, antomicrobal, and antibacterial. Studies say that Tulsi "holy basil" helps to be useful in the treatment of diabetes as well as having heart benefits in several formulations. In the form of tea this herb is said to be very healing along with preventing colds and coughs.

Interestingly, if a person is pregnant or may become pregnant, they may not want to drink this tea being that it is believed to have an anti-fertility effect. Lastly, a great effect tulsi offers is relaxation. Being caffeine free, anytime of a day is the right time to celebrate this legendary Hindu herb.

Namaste.
